Day 1: Stepping Back in Time in Old Guangzhou
Chen Clan Ancestral Hall (陈家祠)
I kicked off my Guangzhou trip with a visit to the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall. This historic landmark is one of the best place to visit in Guangzhou for history lovers. It is an architectural marvel, featuring intricate wood carvings, colorful ceramics, and beautiful decorative elements. It also functions as a folk art museum, showcasing everything from embroidery to porcelain.
Tip: Spend time admiring the detailed carvings and sculptures—they really bring Guangzhou’s history to life.
Shamian Island at Sunset
After immersing myself in history, I took a peaceful walk through Shamian Island. This colonial enclave, with its beautiful European-style buildings and quiet streets, provided a serene contrast to the city’s busy pace. The river views at sunset were breathtaking, making it the perfect place for some relaxation.
Pro Tip: Bring a camera for photos of the beautiful colonial architecture along the riverside—it’s one of the most picturesque spots in the city.
Day 2: Shopping, Dining, and Modern Escapes
Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street (上下九步行街)
On day two, I explored Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street, a bustling shopping area that’s a mix of traditional Cantonese architecture and modern shopping options. The street is filled with local shops, street food vendors, and boutiques selling everything from silk products to local crafts.
Must-Try: Make sure to try the street food—egg waffles and roast chestnuts are delicious, and perfect for snacking while you shop.

Panxi Restaurant
After shopping, I had lunch at Panxi Restaurant, a Cantonese favorite that’s set in a serene garden with koi ponds. It’s the perfect place to try some of Guangzhou’s signature dim sum and other local delicacies. I highly recommend their shrimp dumplings and sweet almond soup.
Tip: It can get crowded during peak hours, so try to visit early or make a reservation.
Canton Tower (广州塔)
In the afternoon, I headed to Canton Tower, one of Guangzhou’s most iconic landmarks. The view from the observation deck was absolutely stunning, offering a panoramic view of the city and the Pearl River below. If you’re a thrill-seeker, you can walk on the glass skywalk, which is an adrenaline-pumping experience. I recommend visiting in the late afternoon to catch the sunset. The tower lights up at night, creating a beautiful spectacle.
Pro Tip: Get your tickets for the tower early here on Klook for easy and smooth travel experience.

Chimelong International Circus
After a day of sightseeing, I ended the evening with a visit to Chimelong International Circus. The show was a spectacular mix of acrobatics, trapeze artists, and breathtaking stunts. The energy of the performers, combined with the stunning stage effects, made for an unforgettable experience.
Day 3: Day Trip to Foshan – A Journey into Cantonese Heritage
Getting There
On the third day, I booked a day tour from Guangzhou to Foshan (here is the link for the 1 day tour). Foshan is located just slightly out of the main city of Guangzhou, it offers a more relaxed, traditional atmosphere. It’s a perfect escape from the city, with a rich history and a deep connection to Cantonese culture.
Foshan Ancestral Temple (祖庙)
My first stop in Foshan was the Foshan Ancestral Temple, dedicated to the God of Martial Arts. This ancient temple features beautiful architecture, peaceful courtyards, and exhibits dedicated to martial arts legends like Ip Man and Wong Fei Hung. It’s a must-visit for martial arts enthusiasts and history buffs alike.
Pro Tip: If you’re visiting for the martial arts culture, be sure to catch a live lion dance or kung fu demonstration—it’s an exciting experience!

Lingnan Tiandi
After the temple, I wandered around Lingnan Tiandi, a pedestrian zone filled with charming streets, colonial buildings, and cozy cafes. This area offers a great mix of local handicrafts, boutiques, and art galleries. It’s also a perfect spot for lunch or a coffee break.
Nanfeng Ancient Kiln
Next, I visited the Nanfeng Ancient Kiln, one of the oldest functioning kilns in China. Dating back to the Ming Dynasty, it’s still used to produce exquisite ceramics. Watching the artisans at work and learning about the history of ceramic production was fascinating.
Food Tip: Foshan is famous for Shunde cuisine, which is lighter and more delicate than other Cantonese food. Try the fish congee or milk pudding—both are must-tries.
Day 4: Chimelong Safari Park and Final Moments
Chimelong Safari Park
On my last full day, I visited the Chimelong Safari Park, which is one of the largest wildlife parks in China. The park houses over 500 species of animals and offers both a drive-through safari and a walking safari. I saw everything from tigers and giraffes to pandas and koalas. The park is well-maintained and offers a unique chance to get up close with wildlife.
Tip: If you’re an animal lover, don’t miss the panda feeding sessions—they’re adorable! Secure your tickets here on Klook before your trip for a smooth travel experience.
